Anyone figure out how to follow a Threads account on Mastodon? I want to see their new Fediverse integration working for myself
As others have said ... only select accounts at the moment (senior and maybe some eng accounts it seems).
Big one is @mosseri
And if you're curious, posts are federating over, but everything else seems to be, and intentionally so, one-way.
@simon This looks like a very soft launch more to show they have activity on the integration by surfacing an account ( @mosseri and allegedly some others ) but the work is gated by safety and compliance work before they roll out either direction, which is good because there at least won’t be a new move going off in the fediverse.
@simon One thing I noticed on his intro video is that he mentions that "ActivityPub support will let people come to Threads and move later to other servers".
For all the talk about rejecting Threads, maybe we can look at this as a chance for business and influencers to have a stepping stone out of the walled gardens? First, go to threads then create their own instance.
Also, I'm really wondering what type of moat Facebook could build to avoid this.
@impersonal Manual - nothing weird going on here, just wanted to share the account I'd found that was a Threads account which could be followed
@simon ahhh, cool. I was worried from all the chatter about Threads and The Doooom of our federated haven :)
@raphael@mastodon.communick.com @simon@fedi.simonwillison.net I suspect that the effect in general would be the opposite. A lot of people already join mastodon.social and kid themselves that they're getting the full fedi experience, as it were
@evelyn @raphael Are they not? I'm running my own instance, and I often feel that I'm missing out on the full fedi experience compared to if I was on mastodon.social or another larger instance
The thing where I only see replies to other posts if they are from or to someone I directly follow is still a big problem for me
