Before Christmas, my now classic (I guess) “Growing Old Gracefully” talk from DjangoCon Europe 2018 came up again.
I gave it another watch…
I talk, in part, about eliminating distractions — turning off the noise.
“That’s damn good advice”, I thought to myself.
So, I set up my blockers, on all my devices, to turn off the news.
It’s wonderful. I get the odd update from what passes by, but I’ve not seen anything really for well over a month.
This is a step change. I recommend trying it. (I have some little banter about Socrates avoiding the Forum that goes here, but I’ll skip that.)
The one thing left is the Fedi.
I’m happy to have it scrolling past as the days goes on, but I wake up with a couple of hundred new posts that, once thinking about it, I really don’t want to wade through.
For this, I’ve been using @adamghill’s https://fediview.com which you can set for (say) 12 hours, and it’ll give the important posts.

@carlton Thanks for sponsoring me! Personally, I look at the fediview email digest every morning to get a sense for what’s going on. Let me know if a new feature would be particularly useful and I can look into adding it! 😀
@adamghill OK, one idea: Could you add a time option for when the digest email is generated and sent?
e.g. I'd like mine at 6:50AM Europe/Madrid. (Rather than ≈2PM)
(Also: don't seem to be able to see/access the settings on the mobile layout.)

@carlton Gah timezones! Yep, it's a good idea. And mobile probably needs some work all around. I'll add them both to my todos.
@adamghill hehe. Yes. Sorry to make it difficult. First pass doesn’t need to let me enter localised time. (I can do math 😜)
@carlton I added the backend support for scheduling emailed digests in https://github.com/adamghill/fediview/pull/17.
I spent way too much time trying to deal with timezone math, so yeah, just gonna stick to UTC for now. 😂
Once I verify the backend works as expected, I'll add in the frontend code to let users configure it. 👍
@carlton I've added a UI to schedule the time the daily digest gets sent by https://fediview.com. Hopefully it all makes sense -- I'll probably try to tweak the UI at some point, but this is better than nothing!
